How to Choose an Air Fryer
A practical framework for picking the right air fryer for your household in five minutes.
Choosing an air fryer comes down to four questions: capacity, basket configuration, functions and cleaning.
**Capacity.** As a rule of thumb, allow around 1.5–2L per person. A 3–4L single basket suits singles and couples; a 5–7L unit handles a family of three or four; anything above 8L (or a dual basket) suits larger families or entertainers.
**Single or dual basket.** Dual baskets let you cook two foods at different temperatures at the same time — brilliant if dinner regularly involves protein and a side. The trade-off is bench space and a higher entry price.
**Cooking functions.** Modern models cover air fry, roast, bake, grill and reheat as standard. Ovens add rotisserie, dehydrating and pizza modes; whether you'll use them is the real question.
**Cleaning.** Look for a dishwasher-safe basket and a non-stick surface you can wipe. This is the single biggest predictor of whether an air fryer stays on the bench or ends up in the cupboard.
