Air Fryer vs Oven: Which Uses Less Electricity?
Real-world numbers for Australian energy rates.
An air fryer typically draws 1400–2400W but only for 15–25 minutes. A conventional fan-forced oven draws 2000–2400W but for 40–60 minutes including preheating.
At an average Australian rate of 30c/kWh, an air fryer session costs roughly 12–20 cents, versus 40–70 cents for the oven. Over a year of near-daily cooking, that's meaningful.
The savings vanish, however, when you use an air fryer oven at similar capacity to a benchtop oven. The rule of thumb: use the smallest appliance that fits the meal.
